RCI--2950

Post by nosaj »

I've got a RCI 2950
When on LSB or USB when you key the mic The freq counter will bounce(similar to how the SWR meter does) Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Also what do you guys use for Alignment tools? I've got a color TV set but they are all too big for the IF cans

Thanks,

I use the Philmore brand tools,

There are those cheaper plastic versions but these are made of a harder plastic.
As for the 2950, are you saying the display (this is not a counter, just displays the frequency you are on), or a regular frequency counter? If that is the case and you don't have a signal generator to produce a 1kc tone, download a tone on your computer or phone and use the for adjustments, it is a little crude but works. On AM, center frequency is ie; 27.3850.00, LSB would read 1kc down from center frequency, USB is 1kc up.

No display on RCI2950 stays, it the frequency counter on the automatic antenna tuner that is fluctuating(MFJ-993b)

Got a link to those philmore tools? Found some on Amazon for $12 but want to make sure I get a set that will work for CB's. The ones I got from Tubesandmore.com are too big.
Thanks,

No link, got them long ago at the local electronics store before they closed. I bought a couple sets and some I trimmed down to work on the smaller new SMT components, (razor knife and a dremel tool).
Yes the frequency counter in that will bounce around, as the tone (frequency) of your voice changes so does the transmitted frequency, using a steady tone the freq should be steady.

I have an older 2980, it really has some strong modulation. It's at least 15 years old, I am in the process of getting it fired back up. My opinion is that the 6 band radios will out talk the 8 bands and have cleaner modulation.
