Lighted SWR/PWR Meter

Post by Beachbum24 » Friday, 20 July 2018, 7:56 AM

I have a Workman SWR-3P meter and i hate the fact it doesn't have any internal light on the meter. Was just wondering if any one has added some thing like that before. I'm guessing it would have to have a separate power source, as the meter it self has not. I have a battery holder from a radio or something, but it hold 4 AA's. That and a couple of colored led's. Just wondering your thoughts on it. And sure, i'm sure i could go and buy a expensive meter that probably lite's up. I'm sure i will some day. But for now money is tight. So any bells and whistles, i have to produce myself.

Making a light circuit isn't hard, most meters that come illuminated have a 12v wall wart included, I eliminate them because most are or could become noisy, I have everything wired to a common 3A old RS power supply, a $4 investment from a hamfest.
I would install a regular round power jack on the back, get a matching male plug, if like me you plan to hook up more (in the future too) try to make them all the same, eliminates the confusion.
You could also add a modulation LED as well, only need an LED, make a small coil of wire attached to the leads, position close to the transmitter input, just make sure nothing is touching (I would silicone it to the case side).

I like that much better than the battery idea. I was just thinking about putting in a switch to turn it on/off. I always save power supplies, so i'll go through what i have and put something together. Don't worry, i wont forget the pics.

Thanks, forgot to include my switch box. I know, could be better looking. But not bad for my first one
