A neighbor stopped by with an old Swan SW-240 asking if it is worth anything. Appears to be an SSB transceiver designed for 20, 40 and 75 meters. Comes with a 110V power supply. Can tell it hasn't been operated in years - plenty of dust/dirt inside. Only two fasteners holding the case on so it is likely that many hands have been inside this one over the years. Looks like it was made around 1964. Is it worth cleaning and trying to bring back to life? What do you think the value of these two pieces are as they sit - $150 maybe? I brought the power supply up slowly using a variac and the unit does light up......

That is a tough one. There are a host of Swan followers out there that you'll want to hook up with if you plan on doing this yourself anyway. So I'd probably google that.
A friend of mine is a real lover of Swan radios and another friend of mine who passed away had a collection of them (some quite rare if I recall). He only gave $100 for 2 of them (complete) because they needed to be totally gone through. What you are thinking seems very high to me considering the amount of work you'll need to invest just to bring them back online. But it might be worthwhile to head over to the auction site and see what folks are wanting for them in working order at least. They can be made to operate on 11m by the way...although I don't care to know how. LOL
Not much help...but hopefully gives you an idea or two.
It looks in decent shape and the plus is the power supply, the inside even looks good. It would still take some work but it probably would be a nice radio, as always Swan's were drifters. If he's looking to sell it I would use the Ham site classifieds (need to be a ham to sell there) would be the best place, I think 231 prices are right on the money.
Good luck to your neighbor. I picked up a Swan 270 (Avatar) in really nice shape about 2 years ago and it was $150 shipped. Not trying to low-ball your friend into selling, but afer looking at the condition and the vintge of the gear, he would be lucky to get $50 unless some real hard core Swan-ahalic need it for a set. Sorry don't mean to be a downer.
