Its a **Censored** mod and makes it sound like doo doooo. I have taken many of them out due to this. Most have a 1N4148 connected in series to the leg of r281 which gets soldered to the connection point of r282.

So crank that **Censored** UP!!! LOL, all pun intended. You can do the mod and have a crappy sound with 225 watts or you can leaving like it is at 200 watts and sound good. Dont believe it when you hear folks getting 350 watts out that thing!!! Sure you can if you float the power supply to 22 volts before you key it down but you will likely never see anything clean past 200 watts out of conventional 12 volt systems.

What kind of carrier are you getting out of the amp? If it's leas than 1/4 of the pep bring it on up. If the 2950 is stock the swing will come up as you raise the carrier. You could try the swing thing and see if you like it. If you hate it put it back. If it were a cobra 25/29 I'd be all about making it swing. Sure it's still a dirty mod but the audio still sounds good as long as you don't get too carried away.

I have to run the box with the am button pushed in to get a 50 watt carrier and swing to 200 so iguess thats ok but when i have the dx 350 in high power it dks 200 amd doesont move forward. I posted that on another thread

I remember you posting about that amp now. Even with the AM button in you can't run the carrier up to 75 and see 300 out? If not I'd let it be until you confirm the amp doesn't have a problem.

50 swinging 200 will give you a decent audio report. 100 swinging 200 won't. You'll have a nice carrier but the audio will be pinched. RCI 2950/70's excel on SSB, not so much on AM. You can get them tuned and modded to work better on AM but they never will sound like a Galaxy or some of the other brands that are AM monsters. A 1 to 4 ratio of carrier to swing is the minimum you want on AM. Anything less than that it will start flat-topping. So 50 swinging 200 is good. The amp you are running will probably do more than 200 pep on SSB with that radio but even with the radio modded it probably wouldn't do much more than what it's doing now on AM. No one would notice the few extra watts you'd get. Best thing to do with the 2950 is tune up the mod pot and leave them alone.
I run a similar amp with my 2950 and on AM I leave the radio at minimum carrier. This lets my amp key at 35 swinging to 225. On SSB with same settings it will do 275 pep. I get really good reports and can talk almost anywhere I can hear. Local or DX.
