yes it will increase your audio punch and sometimes with a weak signal that extra audio makes the difference between being readable or not.

Hi slug,
Welcome to CBRT. Like the other posts, increasing the modulation is a good thing, but overmodulation sounds like crap especially on ssb. There has been many of times I have had conversions with stations that show no signal but have beautiful modulation. Look through the posts on mics to decide which one to get. My preference is Astatic but choice is up to you and if it is for a mobile you might consider a noise canceling one.

It does make a big difference in your audio, just like everyone said. If you're going that route don't get the 20 dollar jobbie at the local truckstop, I would highly recommend the astatic d104. They have ultimate clarity, modulation boost and not too much noise cancelling, some of those cheapies have too much noise cancelling and they make it too quiet. No matter what you get it will be leaps and bounds better than stock.
ps. Is you're going to get a d104, look for the older ones, they use the "salt crystal" and are by far better than the new ones even though they look exactly alike. But be prepared to pay, I paid 75.00 for mine and then another 25 for my tech to put a new case on it and clean er up and tune it to my radio. Some say tuning a Mic is not necessary or possible, but it actually is on both accounts.

I ended up trading a trucker a jar of homemade blackberry wine for a roadking. using the mic makes my swr jump up from 1 to 3 - 4. Thank you all for the recommendations. I dont want to cut on my wilson to fix the swr but i guess i have to do it, to be able to talk with the powermike? I tryed adjusting the height of the antenna with no luck. when using My cobra mic, swr is around 1.1-1.3 :?:

How is adding a power mic changing the swr on the antenna? If you set the swr at 1.1 - 1.3 it should still be that. Check the swr with no modulation and see what it is. Than switch the meter to power and let it read that while talking.

a mic has no bearing on standing wave ratio

agree....weather your using a Power Mic, Noise Canceling Mic, or a regular stock Mic, your SWR should not change one way or another...One has nothing to do with the other.
