Hi roadrunner31

I know the Navaho TRC 458 is actually a Uniden chassis and is very similar to a MB 8719 Washington or Cobra 142 GTL. If the TRC-457 is a Uniden chassis I would say you should be able to do most of the mods that can be done to a 5 Pin Uniden-Cobra radio.

It has been along time so I will have to look up the radio to see who made it, but both radios are listed under the same service manual; Sams Photo facts CB-207. I would bet they are the same inside.

Keep in touch and good luck,
Best Regards,

Rick, The CB Doctor

Yes, I have a TRC-457 as well, and it is the Uniden board.

Hey welcome to the CBRT Forum roadrunner 31, wanted to say that first. I own one TRC-457 and a pair of TRC-458's myself. The TRC-457 (and TRC-458) are reputed to be great radios. Hey I'll say this too, aside from the external cabinet layout and other differences in outer appearance----the TRC-457 and TRC-458 are supposed to be essentially the same radio. They use the same boards and many other design elements, it's what I'm told and what I've read. So many/most of the mod's would most likely be virtually the same for each.

Also I'd recommend a visit to a site (from a fellow CBRT Member "Seecar") all about the TRC-458. Once again, although I'm no expert I think you'll find the majority of the TRC-458 information can be easily used for the TRC-457. The Realistic Navaho TRC-457's "sister radio" is the TRC-458.

When you visit the TRC-458 page, click on the 11 different small links just under the picture of the radio at the top----especially the "Modifications" link.

TRC-458

Now here's a nice video demonstration an owner posted of mod's done to the TRC-457's sister, the TRC-458. If you'll notice, the insides/guts of the radios should be very close if not exactly the same. Nice video with clear video shots and text labeling.

That's cool, great and no problem, people on the CBRT Forum are generally friendly and want to help. Keep posting.

Let us know how you make out with it and post your progress or what you end up doing with it. Or share with the rest of us some tips of what you found or ran into. Good luck!

Hi Foxhunter,

As always I figured you will get the skinny on the radio. It has been along time since I opened a Navaho 457 or 458. Probably because they were so reliable. I was thinking that they had an 8719 chassis, but are in fact the same as the 4 PIn Uniden Washington.

Good reliable info, Thanks

Rick

No big deal at all, you're welcome, and thank you just the same for the compliment. I've done quite a bit of research and reading on some of the older rigs like this and is why I pulled up and provided some good places to look, hoping it might help someone else out too. It's the only reason I post. I've got a ton of things saved to the PC and have done 100's of hours of reading on my own time and as a result try and share what I've come across to try and help out. Glad it did.

Hopefully these attachments work. I have the extra channels in my 457 and the clarifier is unlocked. Haven't done the 10 khz switch yet but I might.

I had posted attachments but they weren't working. They are some mods for the 457 that have been done to mine and passed on to me from my tech. If anyone wants them let me know and I can pm them to you. I can't seem to post them here as an attachment so all I can do is copy and paste them and that would be a long post.
