replacement meter

hello guys ,I recently bought a replacement for my 29 ltd classic and installed it i noticed a resister between the two poles so i put it on the new meter. Of course the meter doesn't work now and i will take everything apart to find out why .That being said ,what is this resister for and do i need it ?

It's there because the movement in the new meter is different than the original, the resistor is used to calibrate it. You will find this in a lot of meter replacements for older radios.

ok thanks for the info ..this resister was on the old meter so i guess it wasn't the original meter to begin with.
