Proper tuning procedure for uniden pc78xl?

can sombody tell me wich pots are wich thats all i need to know, this on has the 2166 final in it? i dont know if thats stock or what but i just need to to which pots are like modulation, power mabe high low? pm would be nice so that i have it stored safe, thanks

That is the same radio as the 29ltd here is some info i copied from this site for you about. hope it helps.

just turn up VR-4 for Max modulation, Adjust L17, L20, L21, L16 and L14 for max RF output.

VR1 receive gain
VR2 receive signal meter
VR3 squelch
VR4 AMC
VR5 transmit power meter
VR6 antenna warning light

and this
POWER TWEAK #1:
1. Change R58(10 Ohm) to a 2.7 Ohm.
2. Change R123(1 ohm) to a .47 Ohm.
3. Re-tune L14,L13,L12 for maximum forward power.
POWER TWEAK #2
1. Remove final and replace with a 2SC1969 transistor.
2. Remove R123 and replace with a jumper.
3. Replace C58 with a 180pF capacitor.
4. Re-tune coils.

this one has a different board than the 29 so i was just wondering, this one might be older?

Hi audio boy

The Uniden 78 XL is very similar to the Cobra 29LTD. The final is not stock from the factory. The stock final is usually a 2SC-2028. The 2SC-2166 is used as a driver in many radios and has more gain than the common final. For a time the 2SC-2166 was used in many radios, such as, the original Colt 357 as a final.

Although, the 2SC-2166 has more gain, it can not handle the power dissipation, so a low SWR is critical.

this board is a 1994UNIDEN (pa-371aB 1/4)the final looks as if it would be stock it has the same factory type solders its for sure not the same board as my cobra 29 nw this board is brown my 29's is green.
