Swapping Crystals

Post by Slim Pickins » Monday, 12 April 2010, 17:43 PM

Can I change out a crystal from a channel I don't use to get a channel I do in an old 23ch radio. Mostly all the locals run ch24 around here and I would sacrifice a channel I don't use to get 24 if that were possible in my Spitfire Mark II tube radio.

Sure it can be done the frequency of the crystal or crystals would have to be determined by what mixing scheme that radio is using.

If it's one of the easier mixing circuits only two crystals would have to be changed to give the radio a new bank of 23 channels above or below channel 1 or 23.

That radio should have the same circuit as the Robyn T123 or T123B with a bank of 37mhz and 4mhz crystals with one 6.000mhz and one 5.545mhz for the 123.
If it's the same as the 123B it will have a bank of 23mhz and 14mhz crystals and one 11.275mhz and one 11.730mhz crystal open up the radio check and see.
If it's not using those crystals give me the frequencies of all the crystals that are in the radio and I'll tell you what has to be done.

That's one of the simpler mixing circuits.

I'll get the information together and explain what has to be done I'll send you a PM this evening or tomorrow.
