Antenna Install For Noob

Post by Jcfr0606 »

Hey New to Forum after purchasing General Lee That is tuned an puts out 40 Watts roughly I'm told. I was given advice on A Sirio 5000 Antenna. This set up is for my Silverado so with a magnetic mount I will mount dead center on top my cab is what I'm reading is best. After that I can take my SWR reading an dial in from there to get under 1.5 an close to 1 as possible correct? Also heard don't coil ur spare cable it will call interference, do I just zig zag the extra or what is best certain way. Any advice or tips on the antenna install in general will help. I want to make sure I have a super solid antenna part to my set up after realizing this causes a ton of issues if not it seems.

I say it is a good antenna choice, you might find that dead center won't achieve a good SWR so move it for and back to get the SWR at it's lowest. The extra coax I would lay not tight wrap and I put it under a mat so it doesn't get damaged argo where and how it enters the vehicle, pinch points. Now that antenna is over 6ft in length so low branches, etc. has to be watched for.
