SWR problems with RCI 2970n2

#382861

Post by 325 lasvegas »

Hello,
I'm having SWR problems with my 2970n2 when installed on my VW Passat. The SWR is 1.2 under 20 watts and when I go over that it goes up to 4.0. I have tried this on a Sirio 5000 Turbo and a Wilson 1000 (US made) and it's the same exact thing on both antennas. Has anyone encountered this before or have any input on how to correct the problem?
Thanks

I'm guessing you are using an external meter since the radio's SWR is just a bar graph. Could be the increase in wattage is messing with the meter, CMC (common mode current). Setting the SWR should be done at a low wattage, no modulation, and on AM. After you set the SWR did you use the radio's bar graph to check it again, plus it will work in the higher wattage range.
Now how about an intro here; http://www.cbradiotalk.com/viewforum.php?f=89 .

Thanks Greg,
I was checking the SWR with an external Daiwa meter with 20/200/2000 watt settings. When I put the radio back in the car I'll recheck on low power with the Diawa and check on high power using the bar graph on the radio. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again for the input!!

Thanks Greg,
That was the problem. I checked on low power with the external meter than using the bar graph on the radio. 1.2 on the meter and 1 bar on the radio.
