mount for 102" whip

Post by Punkin Head » Sunday, 16 December 2012, 13:01 PM

I plan to eventually put a heavy duty ball mount on my Bronco but the one that I am gonna get is kinda pricey. So as a temporary fix to get me on the air, have any of you guys seen and used this type of mount? I plan to use it on my spare tire rack on the back of my Bronco. It will have the base of the whip almost up to the rear window and above most of the steel of the body. I have used mirror mounts before but not one like this, just dont want it to slip or spin on the bar it will be clamped on. A regular mirror mount isnt large enough to fit on the bar.

As long as it gets a good ground on the tire rack I think it will work. Obviously it would be better in the center of the roof, I think you'll get out just fine!

I will get a good ground, I plan to put a run of ground strap to the frame from the mount. Route it along the tire rack to help keep it out of sight and keep it from snagging on stuff.

not sure how new they are but I hadnt seen one like it before either until I went to http://www.gijoesradioelectronics.com/ and seen it. I was checking out sponsor prices after my wallet had a heart attack at RS. I will be trying it and see how well it works.

DONT BUY BALL MOUNT FROM RADIOSHACK ! ! !

I DID AND I MESS UP MY GirlFriend AUDI :(
look for something like this http://www.wearecb.com/store/hustler-ssm-professional-ball-mount-and-spring-p-574.html

now I'm using OPEK ball mounts it's bigger than radioshack and better, in radio shack you can turn ball around , witch you don't want. The other have teeth [on that plastic outside] that prevent spinning around :/

enjoy
P.S.
Good one
Image

Bad one :
element w/o teeth

Now I can't change those because Radioshack was smoler , and that's the problem :/ holes doesn't match.

Is that heavy duty ball mount you plan on by any chance made by '**NON-SPONSOR**'? If the 'Shack' prices gave your wallet a heart attack, you might not want to look at **NON-SPONSOR**'s mounts. If you want the best ball mount currently being made, look anyway.

That would be the one. Yea they are pricey but an excellent mount IMO.

Mr. **NON-SPONSOR** if very accommodating. If he doesn't make it, and if you can tell him exactly what you want, he'll make it for you. He's a good machinist so that if what you want isn't very practical from a machinist's point of view, he'll tell you that too. I haven't talked to, or looked at his site recently so no idea what he makes now.

I have 5 other houses that are much closer. That one is just that far away cause of the power lines.
