Antron A99 vs Imax 2000

Post by Ricky_Bobby » Wednesday, 17 February 2010, 22:58 PM

I am lookin at both of these antennas for my base i have a trc 495. I was just wanting some input I can pick up the a99 for around $55 or the Imax for $95. I am kinda leaning to the Antron because it is cheaper.

There are tons of threads on this, so if you don't get allot of responses take a peak at them as there is probably some added info' you'd find interesting posted.

In my installation the Imax performs about a full s-unit better than the A99. And for only $40, that's a cheap s-unit.
Good luck on your decision.

Very basically, you are comparing a 1/2 w antenna and a 5/8 w antenna. All things being equal, the 5/8 w should do 'better' than the 1/4 w. The difference is in the radiation pattern, the 5/8 w being slightly 'flatter' than the 1/4 w, so less higher angle radiation. That isn't a huge benefit all the time, propagation plays a very big part in the 'angle' you may hear something. It can, and does change. If you take the same care in setting up both antennas I really doubt if you'll see all that much difference between them. Some, sure. So just how much is that 'some' worth to you? I think it would be a safe bet that either will work just fine. And like any two antennas, you may not hear everything on one that you hear on the other. But then, how would you ever know unless you had both?
Have fun.

What he said. The increase in performance is worth the additional $$$$ spent.

Hi Ricky_Bobby

I have both the Antron 99 and the I-Max on a switch; the I-Max 2000 performs much better. Plus, I found the quality control of the newer 4 piece 99 is not what it used to be compared to the older 3 piece A-99. Yet, the pattern is different within range of the the two, at the A-99's maximum range.

You get what you Pay for. I recommend the I-Max-2000

Just my Observation,

Respectfully,
Best Regards,

Rick, The CB Doctor
