Echomax 2000 and rf limited xtreme 2018

Post by smoke blower »

I have three cobra 2000 and the echomax 2000 and xtreme 2018 Mike will not work on either of my cobra 2000. When I key the Mike it has a weird squealing in the speaker. The problem isn't TalkBack it isn't in either radio the echomax 2000 doesnt have TalkBack the xtreme 2018 does but I turn it all the way down but neither will work on either cobra 2000

Hey..

1) Try turning your mic gain down.

2) Inadequate ground on the antenna or case of the radio.

3) The radios ground wire location.

4) High antenna SWR normally caused from lack of ground.

5) Inadequate shielding in the mic cord.

6) Check for loose or broken solders/wires in the mic connector.

7) Make sure the mics are wired for the intended radio.

Also both mikes work on a cobra 29 Ltd with know problem. I and using a 4pin to 5 pin connector to be able to use these mikes on the cobra 2000 is maybe the mikes need to be wired for 5 pin instead of using the 4 pin to 5 pin adaptor

It sounds to me to be the 4pin to 5pin adapter is bad. I'm not sure about the Echomax but the 2018 should wire up to the cobra 2000 using a 5pin plug, try that, if the Echomax also a 6 wire mic cord it should wire up too, you'll have to figure out the pinout.

Thanks I will try to put a 5 pin on each radio and see what happens do I need to use 5 wire hookup on both mikes or does only 4 wires hook up. The 4pin to 5 pin connector I bought brand new from **Non Sponsor**

Yes the switching ground and the mic element ground need to be separate or the radio will still squeal.

I have heard several complaints about those adapters not working, I also got one for my Washington to try 4pin mics, ended up rewiring it to work.
