Getting 20 volts

Post by Crisco »

I've been doing some research on dc to dc step up converters i'm trying to get my voltage up on my mobile setup to twenty volts i have the amps but need more volts. I have found several things on these boost capacitors and step up coverters but cant find exactly what im looking for not to mention it seems as if it would be easy to build one of these if anyone has any advice or knowledge on this please chime in.

DC-DC switching converters can be tricky to get right for a DIY build. I'd suggest just going to something off-the-shelf for your needs.

Where did you come up with the 20V figure?

Just thinking about that one....wouldn't Three 6 Volt golf cart batteries in series give you 18 volts? Not sure how your alternator would like that? Just a thought. I am not sure.

You can do that if your running two separate charging systems (two alternators)

You would have your factory alternator running your vehicle as it normally would be, and then the second alternator would need a Adjustable Voltage Regulator on it, so you could dial the alternator up to around 20v's to charge the 18v battery-pack...

The only thing you would have hooked to the 18v battery pack would be your main Amp...No radios, or driver amps, just the final Amp..

A 24V system and just 24-20 step down DC-DC converter could possibly work too.
