raising the volts in an 06 f250 diesel

how do i raise the voltage in my 06 f250 diesel i have two batteries from the factory but i dont think it is a 24v system so how do i raise the volts enough to get my amp a little stronger without just frying it .

cant its ran off the cpu, you would have to run a separate system

yeah its a no go, youre at what now 14.2 ish? most amps are limited to 15 volts anyway, unless you have a comp box

Hey Crisco, actually your options are limited if you dont want to add an alternator, but I have been fairly successful running an extra battery in the tool box on my F250. there is a way to run a 6 or 8 volt hooked in series.

With a 6 volt battery hooked in series with your 12 volt system, you should float at 18 volts and probably drop to 16 or 17 on key down. the only down side is that you have to pull it out from time to time and recharge.

that may be what i do bc i am building a compitetion amp i am building it to hold the higher volts but i dont want a bunch of wires running all over the place.I like everything to be nice and neat. I also dont wanna lose use of my back seat by having to put all kinda stuff under it to volt up my amp.

Something to consider is what will that additional voltage do/affect the rest of the vehicle? There are definite limits and you probably don't wanna get too close to them!
As for putting a 6 volt battery into a 12 volt system... oh are you gonna have fun! You like loud noises??

Hey Doc, the way i did it the 6 volt batt is isolated from the 12 volt system, the 6 volt floats by it self but when you hook the amp up, you hook up to both batteries, I have it drawn out somewhere....actually someone posted it here I believe

Search WW228kid on here , it will show you how to run the 6 volt in series. I personally wouldn't run it that way all the time tho. Maybe to play every once in a while. If you want more volts a seperate system is best

Its simple enough tho. Just run a hot wire off the + of your 12v batt to the to the - of the 6 volt. Then connect the hot wire for your amp to the + on the 6v. Then the ground on your amp stays on the common ground. Now with the truck off you will have 18volts off the positive on the 6volt. When running should be 20volts

The only advice I'll offer if you try that linked method is do NOT place that 6 volt battery inside the vehicle, and be sure to safety box it and vent it. Then ask someone about the internal resistance of a battery and how it relates to applying 12 volts to a 6 volt battery.

Once again, an alternator withe the correct voltage, coupled with the batteries of the correct voltage, are somthing that there is not a good substitute for. Altho I have known guys that have successfully ran a motormaul.

Oh, and the (poorman volt system) does work somewhat satisfactory if set up properly, I know enough guys that have done this including myself......Please be careful tho, and dont attempt it if you dont understand how it works!

My only concern is running a 12v into a 6v it just sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

have run 12v into 6v battery while the 6v battery is under extreme load,,, as in jumpstarting a tractor, but you better had made sure the power is going to be absorbed(used)or things will pop.
as for increasing the voltage in the ford diesel, its components are only designed for a spike of 16v. exceed the design and you have alot of expense and headaches.
i know what your trying to achieve, you can change the radio, BTDT.
anything further has to be isolated :aaargh:

If you want to up the voltage it would be best to just install a completely separate electrical and charging system, use 6 volt batteries, 3 for 18v or 4 for 24v, then the bang that 'Doc was talking about wont happen.

There have been some ghetto Keydowns where a 6 volt battery was put in series with the positive cable at the amp. It's too much voltage for anything than a short key. Having the battery in the vehicle is a bad idea and it's guaranteed to pop a pill if you try to talk on it like that.

Some of the earlier ford's were used as ambulances and had 2 alternators. I don't know how much different things are on an 06 than the old 7.3L but you might find the ambulance package parts and make a clean install.
