Philippines Model 200 GTL?

Post by Hawkeye » Monday, 28 March 2011, 19:20 PM

I`ve got a Cobra 2000 GTL and was wondering what sets the "Philippines" model apart from the rest of them?
Not sure which one I have. How can I tell?

My Cobra 138 XLR has it stamped on the rear of the radio. It's old enough to have been made in JAPAN!

There is no difference between a Cobra 2000 GTL made in the Philippines from one made in Taiwan. The Philippine version was made later and ended production in April of 1994. The only difference is the test points are removed from the later Philippine radios. The test points are still marked, but the test point post have been removed.

This is not a big deal, but makes it a bit harder for the technician to put any test probes on a test point. The test points must be measured on the actual components instead of a test loop post. I have never had a problem with either version of the Cobra 2000 GTL.
