I have been looking at a new galaxy 979. Does anyone have an opinion of them? Pro or con.

I have had one for about 6 months. Bone stock. Audio reports are good. I am happy with it

I think they are great little radios, have it aligned so everything is working right. If you plan on any mods to it , one thing to get would be a frequency counter so you know where you are.

Mud duck here finally got my 979 installed in my Jeep and on the air yesterday - impressive! Clay's did a tune, align and clarifier unlock, and seems to have done a great job - based on my noob level of knowledge. The receive is real good and so far I've gotten good reports from the few local contacts. I need to work on the antenna system a bit more. SSB is fascinating and I see why it's fun!

The first time I keyed the mic after install I thought I had serious problems - red lights and a major loud squeal...found out the talkback was on with the mic too close. The SWR light seems to illuminate red when TX, found some blog info that indicates this may be a reflection from the TX light and tied to being tuned-up...hmmm? Also, the internal SWR meter doesn't move much off the left side - my external SWR meter is showing between 2 and 2.3, so I'm not TXing much till I get that sorted out. Of course, what's a CB in a Jeep without a PA system (already need more power)!

I'm glad I got this radio, and now the learning begins!
