Texas star DX 350 hdv

#383171

Post by Mtn Lynx »

Just snagged a Texas star DX 350 hdv few weeks ago cheap. It puts out some watts. But the preamp seems to work only by itself. When on ssb it is not functional. I put it in am mode but the preamp is not fully working. I have to reset the amplifier for the preamp to function. Hope it can be fixed. I'm not a tech but with some tutelage I may get it working.

The circuit diagram for it is here :-

It could be the relay is sticking partly operated ?

Or most likely Transistors Q1 and/or Q2 and/or Diode D2 are blown

the switch that turns it on and off could also be dirty. the only time I have used a pre amp was about 1979 or so. that is about when the amp I bought had it. never did like the static it brought in so never turn one on even if it has it on the amp. on the amps I have now do not even know if the preamp works on them. my little rm203 is the preamp less version.

anyway just check the relay, switch and see if some thing is holding the trans on. bad resister or cap as was mentioned

I was thinking that the relay was sticking. saw some relays for sale online, might just order some transistors and a relay.

Try lightly tapping the relay with the plastic handle of a screwdriver.

The problem most likely will come and go when you tap it, if it's the relay causing the problem?

Hooked it up for awhile and fiddled around with it. Tapped the relay, still only engages by itself. Probably don't need it like Sonoma said. Man this amp puts out watts..... Have not used it when skip is on yet.
