Don't know if the red Led light is burned out, but when i turn the power on, the red light does not turn on. The green one turns on for the pre amp. But the red one doesn't. It gets hot when I hold the mic for awhile. Seems to be working, just no red light.

the red light could be burned out. best to check with a watt meter to see what wattage the amp is putting out. this little amp only needs 2 watts or less to work. how much are you putting into the amp? if it is getting hot you may be over driving it. no way to tell if the light is burned out or not without seeing the amp with proper test equipment.

this amp on AM should only dead key about 25 watts and swing to about 100 when it is set up right with the radio. if you are over driving it the life of the amp is going to be short lived.

If the heatsink is hot it's probably working and like said the led is burned out, it does happen. It's a pretty common led, bicolor 5mm, about $.99. Like sonoma said, I would have the wattage dropped so as not to burn up the amp.

I put the linear in my truck. Got a little CB to talk to my kids while I'm out. The galaxy is set up at home. But have yet to hear skip. Might go drive up one of these hills near town this weekend and listen.

Right now skip is very sporadic and with you living in Alaska I'm not surprised you haven't heard any, it is being in the right place at the right time now. With you being that far north you could use the Aurora as an indication of skip. That little amp will give you a hand at some local conversations depending on terrain. Channels to listen on are 6AM and 28AM, if you have SSB then 38LSB, in the evenings you might hear Hawaii and Australia.

We had Northern lights a couple nights ago (Aurora) but didn't hear anything. My wife heard a couple of voices on the radio on the 4th, but it was short lived. I was at work, she has all the luck.
