I quit looking the beginning of last year. It's ridiculous what .22lr was going for and .223/5.56. I just cut back on my shooting and started sitting on what I had. Luckily I had stored some before all this mess started. Honestly, I don't even know what the going rate for ammo is right now. I want to get into reloading but those supplies were hard to find too. In a way the ammo shortage and high prices (of guns too) is what made me get back into radio's. I had to shift hobbies because I am not paying crazy prices for ammo, firearms, and parts.

Europe too...

Trying to get cheap .223 from Korea but the answer is always "PMC ships nearly the most to Amercia because they pay astronomical prices" so...who's to blame?

I am surprised to hear that ammo is so hard to come by in Texas, you would think just the opposite, Maryland has one of the strictest gun laws in the country and ammo is readily available on the shelves, not so much 22 cal. but everything else but you will pay dearly for it.

Everything but 22lr and 223 has returned and is about normal price around here. We still have a few big name stores wanting higher prices tho.

About right. When I posted the link it show available. It's still a daily search for 22lr. Just got to be in the right place at the right time.

It is hit or miss in Pittsburgh. Sometimes there is a lot of everything and other times nothing. Prices are still above what they were two years ago.

I read that the manufacturers stopped producing as much .22 in an attempt to keep up with the increased demand for other calibers. I don't know if it's true.

I thought it was due to gluttony. When the higher caliber stuff (.223/5.56, .308/7.62, and other surplus) started drying up the "shooters" moved on to the next cheap ammo......22LR. Not as long range but goes bang and allows them to get their "fix". So they started buying it in bulk since they wanted to shoot and wanted to hoard. The guys that were used to buying 1,000 rounds of surplus for X amount of dollars found out they could spend that same X amount of dollars and get a lot more 22LR. Then they started thinking, "hey, what if this ammo shortage lasts a while or the gov't decides to buy it all and not let us peons get any" so then they started hoarding. If you go to some of the gun websites it's amazing how much ammo people have stocked. I have seen pictures of walls of ammo cans and tubs full of loaded magazines. If that's your thing then I say fine. The only problem is the mentality has spread and now there are a lot more hoarders and profiteers. I just moved on to something else (cb radios) until this thing passes.....if it does.

(well that's my theory anyways)

Gluttony has a lot to do with it. I haven't bought much ammo in a long time because I will not pay an inflated price because fools are hoarding. I haven't been to the range in a while either. When some ammo prices (I only know about the ammo I usually buy) doubled and almost tripled I decided to wait it out....just like I did the last time everyone panicked.

Yep. I sold a couple AR's in the hight of the panic and saved the money. Now I have enough to build several more. Same with ammo.

With the price of ammo going through the roof, 22lr is the best bang for the buck. Everyone is looking for it because you still can get 500 rds for $25 and then plink all day at the range.

I don't think it was as much gluttony in the states but the better price the manufacturers were getting exporting it the other countries and our own government stockpiling it for the homeland security and law enforcement agencies. I saw this coming 30 years ago and invested in reloading equipment. Check out Dillon Precision Equipment, http://www.dillonprecision.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , not something for the average "plinker" but worth a look if you are into firearms.

Thanks for everyone's input. I too have seen and heard about people stock piling 10 of thousands rounds of ammo, jut waiting for society to break down and end of the world as we know it.
